A new study by M&R indicates that nonprofits are experiencing a decline in their mobile list growth when they examined data from several nonprofits between June 2011 and May 2012.
Why the Decline?
“Organizations may have already recruited the “low hanging fruit” from their email lists onto their mobile lists. Some subscribers may have already signed up for multiple mobile lists, and are less likely to sign up for any more, said M&R.
Overall email list growth across the nonprofit sector is also down from so that would also influence mobile list growth since many mobile recruits came from organization’s constituent relationship management systems.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy just released a new web interactive data set that shows donation patterns across the United States. The interactive also drills down to the local level by zip code and provides a wealth of data (courtesy of the IRS) about how towns and counties rank nationally in terms of their generosity.
“Comparing levels of giving is always a challenge in part because the cost of living varies greatly across America. To provide a fair analysis, The Chronicle’s rankings show the percentage of their income that households donated from the money they had left after paying their taxes and covering housing, food, and other essential expenses,” said the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

The American Red Cross recently updated their Social Media and Online Communications Guide for their staff and it’s packed with some great tips that any organization can adapt. Check out some of their great suggestions below.
Be a Good Social and Mobile Citizen
BE ACCURATE:
“Your network depends on you to tell the truth. Have fun, but make sure any news you report has been verified. If you’re retweeting, sharing, or otherwise linking to someone else’s content, give him/her credit,” said the Red Cross.
I’d like to add check the links before you RT a post. Sometimes, the link can be one character off and lead your followers to a different article you did not mean to share. I speak from personal experience. :)

You look forward to sharing victories with your community. Who wouldn’t? A big win offers a jolt of enthusiasm and shows that your hard work is paying off.
As any seasoned campaigners know though, advocacy work isn’t always smooth sailing. You are bound to hit patches of rough water. The way you address these challenges and how you share bad news with your community are critical to the long-term health and strength of your movement.
Ok, so you lost the vote. Your efforts to turn the vote of a key legislator failed to bring them to your side. You didn't hit all of your campaign goals. Your capital campaign came up short and the resulting budget shortfall means you are facing some tough decisions. The court ruled in your opponent’s favor. Even worst, an employee stole from your endowment, and Bernie Maddoff made off with all your investments!
