According to studies by Chris Olivola “when people anticipate that they're going to have to suffer to raise money for a charity, then their willingness to contribute to that cause actually goes up.” This is why endurance and competitive peer-to-peer fundraising events like the 39-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer has raised over $423 million dollars since 2003 to support breast cancer research and breast cancer screenings at the local level.

In the last five years we’ve seen the worlds of mobile, social, and cloud technologies mature. We’ve come to expect that we’ll be able to share, collaborate, and sync our life and work from anywhere as a matter of course.
Even as enthusiasts trumpet their favor for one platform or another, to some extent, traditional tech rivalries are becoming irrelevant. iPhone or Android, Facebook or Twitter, Dropbox or Google Drive? For the most part, it’s a matter of preference. They all get the job done.

Most online fundraising begins and ends with email. The vast majority of donations made online are in response to an email from the charity asking for a donation.
But many charities are skipping simple steps that can seriously boost response to email fundraising appeals!
Are you pre-populating donation forms, or making your prospects and donors re-enter their address every time they donate? Does the branding on your landing page match the branding in your email? Or do you use a generic landing page for all donation appeals? (Don’t worry, we’re here to help!)

Nonprofits raised $298.4 billion in 2011, according Giving USA, one of the largest studies conducted in the nonprofit sector. While $298.4 billion might seem like a lot of money, it’s only about 2% of the GDP. The study also shows how much charities are still struggling to raise money in a bad economy. Charitable giving only grew by 0.9%. At this rate, philanthropic giving would not recover until 2022, said Patrick Rooney, Executive Director of the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, which coordinates the Giving USA study.
